  1. These posts are getting really boring.
I think that they are taking away from your blog.

  2. I hate when anons leave non constructive comments and don't even have the balls to reveal themselves. But, I guess everyone is entitled to an opinion.

Anyhoo, WTF indeed. How do they get away with it. There certainly is one born every minute. I like that you keep revealing this to us. It's a wake up call, a vigilance shout. Mind you, anybody should spot that this is idiotic. I think I will go to Penarth Beach, there is tons of this crap there!

    See you soon.

  3. Wow, some anon is cranky this afternoon.

I'm wondering if there's some psychology going on here. I some of these things are fake sales that immediately sell to get people into the mindset that they better hurry up and buy. I don't think a sale could get more bizarre than this one.

  4. Anon... out of 1465 posts, I've done 26 on OKL, and several of those have been positive. Sorry it's boring you. I hope there are enough other things to keep you interested.

  5. These posts are cracking me up, Meg! I so agree with you and when I see certain things on OKL now, I always think of you and think "Oh my gosh this is going to irritate the hell out of Meg today" or something to that effect! In my world, doing antique shows, we sometimes joke that the best things we have don't sell and the one thing we least expect to sell(maybe the items that is okay, but not what we are proudest of) is what walks right out of the booth as soon as the show starts. Other times we might have a great price on a really good item, it doesn't sell at that show, or the next. We joke that if we mark the price up the next time, maybe it will sell - and guess what, it works! So, the point being - go figure why people buy some things some of the time, and other times not!! Who knows why the heck they buy old Mason jars off of OKL and not off of Etsy? Beats me! Your point is well taken with me and your posts are valid and not boring. Anonymous needs to just go read another blog when you do these - you do plenty of other posts that are fabulous!!! Keep going Meg - you make me smile and shake my head every time!!

  7. Laughed out loud at this one.
I don't think they are taking away from your blog or getting boring--just my opinion.

  9. To a rockhound the reduced price could be a steal. If your readers are interested House of Onyx is a good place to start in search of moneral specimens

  10. More than anything I'm intrigued by their condition: "gently used". Perhaps that's how OKL's customers should feel?

  11. Marked down to $59! Maybe OKL is starting to spoof itself.

  12. M...ok...as a disclaimer, I do have a pretty little silver tray with a collection of rocks in it, but I didn't pay for them, I found them in my travels.I called out OKL this am for offering a Bunny Williams book for $119 (claiming it was originally$175!?)...I own that book and think that I paid $40 full price new. I love reading all your posts....thanks for all the hard work that goes into them...k

  13. M if your readers notice OKL s something akin to a "Craig's" listing as the listing agent -- stone road vintage--- is a store in the hamptons--and vintage is a term for age and gently used ---is yeah funny for rocks million of years old but minerals none the less. also a previous OKL item allowed me to google the name of a vendor out in california and they have a huge selection of my favorite garden seats in all styles and colors thanks for keeping us in tune to the real world we are a smelting pot .

  15. Anon@8:57... I have found and bought things from OKL, and have discovered new sources, too. I generally don't have any issue with the regular vendors.

It's a very small percentage of the Tastemakers' wares that I think are so far out of line with their prices.

I certainly understand that not everyone has the time, patience or inclination to hunt around for the things that I find so outrageously priced. But since I do, I find it all comical that people pay the prices asked.

As for the rocks, there wasn't even any provenance for them. Where were they found? What makes them so special? Why are they worth this amount? All of those answers might have kept me from posting this.

  16. Meg these post are great and I laugh at the ridiculousness of OKL (is that a word?)

Gosh down in the country where my parents grew up there were scads of these rocks. My cousins and I could see them when we crossed the swinging bridge at the creek!

  17. I love it!!! Meg, you are becoming quite the object of discussion.......as for OKL: I guess that it works for the merchants. Everyone I know that has been featured has sold out and is loving it. As for me, well--I have some rocks with fossils that I collected in Geology 101 while at Duke and on a field trip to West Virginia (they came with one big hangover after hitting the bars). I think that I will go find them. Have a super Sunday with Connor. Mary

  18. My now-at-that-age eyes read this initially as "$5900" and was relieved but sort of surprised once I realized that the price was just $59.
(I love these OKL ridiculous offerings that you highlight - don't stop.)

  20. HA ha ha ha HA!!!! My son gave me a rock for Valentine's day; I had no idea they were so valuable... ;-)

  21. Kathy, just to clarify about the Bunny Williams book (assuming you're talking about Point of View) ... I agree about the price but when I read the fine print it said the book was a first edition and inscribed by Bunny, so I guess that lifts the price in the eyes of the seller. And, from the "sold out" stamp attached, a buyer.
